John Richard (Rich) Solar, 75, Shawnee, Kansas, peacefully entered into the kingdom of eternal peace in the arms of his loving wife of 55 years, Rose Solar on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri.

Rich was born September 25, 1938, in Windber, Pennsylvania, to John and Catherine Solar (both deceased). He was a devout catholic and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 48 years. He served in the Navy. Rich was a driver's supervisor for Safeway Food Stores. He influenced the lives of many young men during his years as a baseball, football and basketball coach. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing golf. Rich also enjoyed watching the Chiefs, Royals and KU Jayhawks from the comforts of his recliner.

He is survived by his wife, Rose (Haefele) Solar; children, Rick (Debbie), Mike, Catherine, Bonita Rainey (Bryan), Lori Lovegren (Bryan); 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Jan Gierman (Don) and brother, Jim (Barb).

Funeral Mass and Burial

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2013, at Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
