John Stanek

John Stanek, 72, of Shawnee, KS, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at his home.

John was born March 5, 1937 in Edina, Minnesota to Carl and Margaret (Newman) Stanek. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. John was united in marriage to his beloved wife Maryann Novak on February 20, 1971. He worked for 33 years as a salesman for 3M and during retirement, for Proctor & Gamble. He was a proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving for many years as an usher at the 10:30 Mass. Through the years John and Maryann developed many friendships that John enjoyed even after Maryann's passing in 2009.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Sandra O'Connor, and by his wife Maryann on December 8, 2009. He is survived by his two daughters. Melissa Stanek, Kansas City, MO., and Regina Etienne and her husband Sean, of Landstuhl, Germany, his brother Charles Stanek and his wife Chista of Bloomington, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Joseph Novak and his wife Roselyn of Cincinnati, Ohio.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Animal Haven, 9800 W. 67th Street, Merriam, Kansas 66203 or St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5901 Flint, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.

Visitation and Funeral Service

A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, February 14, 2010, from 6 to 8 pm at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with a rosary at 6 pm. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 15, 2010, at 10 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Private inurnment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, Kansas.
