John "Jack" Ussery

February 16, 1936 — September 3, 2022

John Raymond Ussery (Jack), 86, of Shawnee, KS, passed away on September 3, 2022 at Sharon Lane Rehabilitation Center.

Jack was born in Kansas City, KS on February 16, 1936 to Orville and Leona Ussery. He attended and graduated from Wyandotte High School before going on to enlist in the United States Army, where he served time in Japan. After returning, he went to work for the Kansas Gas Service where he worked his way up from digging ditches to superintendent for 34.5 years. Afterward, he worked for Gas Distribution out of Aurora, MO for 10 years. In his spare time he loved spending time with his family, watching sports, especially the Chiefs and KU, and bowling, though he wasn’t good at it.

He met his wife Darri in 1970 and they married in 1971. Jack and Darri blended their families and added their daughter Kelli in 1973, becoming a family of 9. Being a kind and dependable father was of the utmost importance to Jack, and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to whole-heartedly loving his family. His favorite saying was “let’s go to bed so these people can go home.”

He is survived by his wife Darri Ussery, his children Kelli Carr (Mike) of Bonner Springs, KS, Jeffrey Ussery (Jill) of Shawnee, KS, Debra Vanderwerf of Overland Park, KS, Lori Palmisano (Jim) of Overland Park, KS, Joy Jeffries (David) of Greeley, CO, Jerri Ussery of Overland Park, KS, and John Ussery (Lynn) of North Glenn, CO, his 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings Ed Ussery (Alice), Mary Smith, and Richard Ussery (Linda), and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Orville and Leona Ussery and brother Gene Ussery.

The funeral service will be held at The Hill Ministries 4945 Old K-7 Rd, Shawnee, KS 66226 on September 10, 2022 at 1 pm. There will be a visitation held at the same location from 11:00 to 1:00 pm. Followed by graveside services at Old Monticello Cemetery. His family will be present to welcome loved ones.
