Johnna D. Lingle, 74, of Shawnee, KS, passed away August 17, 2016. Survivors include children, Russell Thompson and wife Ginny of Overland Park, Robin Thompson of Greenwood, MO, Brian Thompson and wife Bernadette of Harrisonville, MO, grandchildren Brock Thompson and Ashley Irick, great grandchildren, extended family and many friends. Preceded in death by a son, Douglas Lingle. Johnna had over 30 years of Public Service, beginning as a City Clerk for the city of Lenexa, KS in 1967. She was elected as the first female Mayor of Lenexa in 1973, serving for 3 consecutive terms. While serving as Mayor she also served as the Executive Director of the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce from December 1973 through October 1981. In 1981, she was the first female elected as a Johnson County Commissioner, serving for the Second District of Johnson County Kansas for 5 consecutive terms, and Chairman of the Board multiple times.

Honors:

Kansas Park & Recreation Official Award, Rotary Paul Harris Award, City of Lenexa Distinguished Service Award, K-10 Corridor Leadership Award, Leadership Appreciation from Johnson County Council of Mayors, Lenexa & Kansas Jaycees Nominee for Outstanding Young Kansan and United Community Services Volunteer Award.

NATIONAL: National Association of Counties Organization & National Association of Regional Councils STATE: Kansas Emergency Medical Service Board, Kansas Crime Prevention Coalition, Governor’s Kansas Cavalry, Governor’s Metropolitan Criminal Planning Committee, Kansas Attorney General’s Crime Victim’s Assistance Fund,

Mid-America Regional Council, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate Advisory Board), Co-founder of Johnson County Debt Management Awareness Council (DMAC), Co-founder K-10 Corridor Association,

Johnson County Water Resources Board, Johnson County Outdoor Theater Steering Committee, Shawnee Lions Club, Lenexa Rotary Club, Lenexa Historical Society and many others too numerous to mention.

To say the least she will be truly missed by her family and many, many people. She wanted everyone who knew her to remember the “warm fuzzies” of our lives together.

Services

Memorial service will be held Thursday, August 25, 6pm, at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS.
