Jonette Jeanne “Jonnie” Verstraete

Jonnie Verstraete, 71, Lenexa, KS passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, KS surrounded by her family and friends.

Jonnie was born August 27, 1941 in Kansas City, KS to Orman Lee and Mildred Cecile Peachey. She was a 1959 graduate of ShawneeMissionHigh School. On August 6, 1960, Jonnie married James C. Verstraete, Sr. in Mission, KS. Jonnie started working for the Shawnee Mission School District in 1973 and retired after 25 years.

Jonnie's joys in life were spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren. Many hours were spent at sporting events, shopping and reading. She especially enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. Jonnie was a member of the Lenexa Lioness Club and the Red Hat Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Verstraete, Sr. on Feb. 9, 2011 and grandson Tyler James Preston Verstraete on July 16, 1991.

Survivors include her mother and step-father, Mildred and Marvin McConnell; four children, Velita (Steve) Smith, Anita (Bob) Mathis, Jim (Angi) Verstraete Jr., Jeannie (Roger Overcast) Verstraete; grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Gorrell, Bobby (Samantha) Mathis, Shawn Smith, Katie Mathis, Kyle Verstraete, Zachary Verstraete, Eric Mathis and Ryan Verstraete; great grandchildren, Jackson Mathis and Caden Gorrell.

Mass of Christain Burial and Visitation

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday, Feb. 14 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 pm.
