J. Marshall Walston, 81 of Shawnee, KS passed away Monday, December 10, 2018 at home with his family by his side.
Marshall was born August 15, 1937 to the late Joseph and Mary Louise Walston in Fountain, NC. He married Janice Taylor, his wife of 58 years, on March 4, 1960. Shortly after his wedding, Marshall was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. After being discharged from the service, Marshall began his career as a heavy equipment operator, and eventually started his own business, Walston Construction. He retired in 1978.
Marshall was a member of Armourdale Baptist Church, where he volunteered to drive the Sunday school bus. Marshall was a dedicated father, and served as a Scout Leader for his son's Boy Scout Troop. He also served as President of the Claycomo Saddle Club and was a member of the Operating Engineers Local #101.
Marshall is survived by his wife Janice Walston; four sons, Charles Walston and wife Annette; Bradley Walston; Jeffrey Walston and wife Kimberly; Troy Walston and Judy Crichton; six grandchildren, Ethan, Justin, Sage, Annabelle, Kamilla and Trevor; a sister, Patricia Shrock.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Marshall will be laid to rest in Maple Hill Cemetery with military honors.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Armourdale Baptist Church, 700 S. Mill Street, Kansas City, KS 66105.
