Juanita Evangeline “Van” Jones

December 9, 1918 — September 26, 2009

Juanita Evangeline "Van" Jones, 90, Overland Park, Kansas passed away Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park.

She was born December 9, 1918 in Martin, Tennessee, the daughter of Toney and Adele Metcalf. The family moved to Illinois shortly after her birth. She graduated from Joppa High School in 1936 and attended Illinois State Normal University until she married her sweetheart, William D. "Bill" Jones on October 16, 1938. Together they shared 71 years as husband and wife. She met Bill shortly after losing her parents and two younger sisters in a car accident, which helped to fill the void in her life.

Evangeline was employed by the Bendix Corporation for several years until she retired in 1977. She always put her family first and was a devoted wife and mother, giving encouragement and guidance to her children. She was a member of Valley View Methodist Church, where she and Bill volunteered after their retirement. They loved traveling to all parts of the country and being with their family.

Evangeline is survived by her husband, Bill, sons, David and Dan Jones and daughter Toni and spouse, Jim "Skip" Hutton and four grandchildren, Rebecca Hutton, Laurie Hutton, Christine Mazza and Scott Kerr.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Garden Terrace of Overland Park for their wonderful care for her.

Per Evangeline's wish, donations may be made to Valley View United Methodist Church, 8412 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
