Juanita L. Spencer, 92, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Home.

Juanita was born February 5, 1923 to the late David and Lorene Smith in Kansas City, Kansas. Juanita was proud to be the first in her family to graduate from high school. She is a member of Rosedale High School class of 1941. Juanita served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. For many years Juanita worked for Inter-Collegiate Press before retiring to help raise her grandson, David. She was a longtime member of Countryside Christian Church, where she served as Sacristy Deacon and sang in the choir. She enjoyed making a special birthday poster for the member of her Sunday school class. Later she became a member of Shawnee Park Christian Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William R. Spencer; her son, Robert J. Spencer; a daughter, Carol A. Spencer and a brother, David Smith.

Juanita is survived by a grandson, David Rushing.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, February 19 at Shawnee Park Christian Church, 16500 Midland Dr., Shawnee, KS 66217. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. with burial following in Pleasant View Cemetery in Shawnee.
