Judith C. Goodnight

June 30, 1943 — May 12, 2014

The beautiful, selfless spirit of Judith C. Goodnight was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of May 12th, 2014 after an arduous battle with cancer. Judy, as she is known by her friends and family, will always be remembered as a sweet lady with a true servant's heart-always joyfully giving of her time, talent and treasure. Throughout the years, Judy faithfully served at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee where she cared for children in the nursery for more than 30 years, as well as served in the soup kitchen, as a deaconess, as secretary of the Ruth Circle and on the fellowship committee.

Judy was born in Portland, IN, on June 30th, 1943 to Joseph and Jennita Shank. After Judy's birth, she lived with her mother and grandmother in Dunkirk, IN while her father was serving in the Pacific during WWII. After the war, the family moved between Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania and Missouri before finally settling in Shawnee, Kansas in 1954. Judy attended Hocker Grove and Shawnee Mission North High School, graduating in 1961.

In 1963, Judy began her true vocation as the loving and devoted mother of her 3 sons, Jeff, Mike, and David. Judy was also employed with the Bayer Corporation for 24 years, retiring in 2005.

Judy was preceded in death by her mother Jennita C. Shank in 2001. She is survived by her father Joseph M. Shank Sr., her brother Joseph M. Shank Jr., her sons and their spouses, Jeffrey A. & Stephanie Goodnight, John M. & Rhonda Goodnight, David J. & Kelli Goodnight, her 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, Rachael & Aaron Fulk, Isaac Fulk, Josephine Goodnight, Jeffery Goodnight, Johnathan Goodnight, Kaitlyn Goodnight, Jesse Goodnight, and her mother-in-law Helen Goodnight.

A visitation will be held from 10 - 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, 11400 Johnson Drive with funeral services immediately following at 11 a.m.
