Judith E. Livingston

May 23, 1942 — September 23, 2021

Judy (Judith) Ellen Barrett was born in St. Louis, MO on May 23, 1942 to John and Virginia Barrett. She and her siblings, Betty, John and Steve, had the privilege of growing up in a loving neighborhood, where neighbors were (and are) like family.

Judy graduated from Ritenour High School and attended her first two years of college at the Normandy Residence Center, which is now the University of Missouri at St. Louis. She graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia. During these years Judy collected a wonderful group of lifelong friends. Judy began teaching in St. Ann, Missouri. She and Warren met while he was living in the area they married on August 19, 1967, and due to his work, he then spirited her off to Kansas City, where she began teaching in the Center School District. More great friends were made, and even more as the spouses began to meet.

Michael John Livingston and David Scott Livingston came along and Judy quit teaching to become immersed in PTA, Cub Scouts, Church volunteering and sports. She earned her Master’s Degree and became reading specialist and tutorial Coordinator at Maple Woods at the Metropolitan Community Colleges; at which time she added more friends to the list.

Warren and Judy thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years. She highly loved travel, visiting all of the states except Alaska, some of the Caribbean islands, and one fantastic European Cruise for our 50th Anniversary, and she spent countless hours volunteering.

Judy loved books and libraries, volunteering, travel, history, gardens and gardening, the Royals, her beloved Shawnee UMC, and family time. She especially treasured time with her granddaughters. Our church friends have been wonderful and loving, and have meant so much to us for 35 years plus. Judy also wanted to give thanks to the St. Luke’s Health System and so many others that have cared for us over the last few months.

Judy is survived by her loving husband Warren, sons Michael (Alicia) of Phoenix and David (Tracy) of Shawnee, granddaughters, Sophia and Abigail, brothers John Barrett of St. Louis and Steve Barrett of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, nieces Michelle Blackford (Bret) of St. Louis, Missouri, Carrie Brewster (Charlie) of St. Louis, Missouri, Christine Metzner (Dave) of St. Louis, Missouri, Amy Graham (Bill) of San Diego, nephew Alan Livingston (Barbara) Long Island, New York, and many other family and dear friends.
