Judith “Judy” Ann Mayes was born November 21, 1939 to Sid and Ethlyn Caraway in Coffeyville, Kansas. Judy went to be with Jesus on November 16, 2021 at home surrounded by her family. She was united in marriage to James H. Mayes Jr. on July 14, 1957. Together they had four children: Julia, Laura, Angela, and James.

Judy was preceded in death by her son, James Sidney Mayes, and her parents, Sid and Ethlyn Caraway. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jim Mayes; daughters, Julie(Ted) Massing, Laurie(Sean) Oleson, Angie Mayes; sisters, Syd(George) Stevens, Jeani(Ken) Kennedy; nine grandchildren, James B. Mayes, Kevin Mayes, Josh Helvey, Joe(Blair) Helvey, Christina(Chance) Webber, Sierra(Alex) Valverde, Sawyer(Cathryn) Massing, Lexi(Jacob) Bishoff, Skyler Oleson; and nine great-grandchildren Layla, James Jr., Sophia, Zenia, Zahra, Grayson, Shiloh, Asher, and Reece.

Sharing the love of God with her family and others was the cornerstone of Judy’s life. She was a synchronized swimming coach, Youth for Christ leader, pianist and manager for The Maranatha Band, and led a weekly ladies’ Bible study. Judy fought tirelessly for the rights of the unborn and was a missionary across four continents. She created her own craft business, The Painted Pony, and published a number of powerful books which were translated into numerous languages and generously distributed to many nations across the world. The legacy of her teaching ministry continues to impact lives worldwide. In her every venture, Judy changed the lives of those around her with the revelation of Jesus, and her most prized possessions were the hearts and lives of those she touched.
