Julie Anne Miller, 80, Lenexa, KS passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, at home surrounded by her family.
Julie was born June 7, 1935, in Kansas City, KS to Forrest V. and Florence (Shalkoski) Purcell. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1953 and the University of Kansas in 1957. She was a proud member of Alpha Phi and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa. On March 2, 1957, Julie was united in marriage to John J. Miller.
As a North area representative, Julie was a longtime member of the Shawnee Mission School Board, including terms as president of the board. Fondly referred to as "Mother North" by many, she was also a Shawnee Mission North High School Hall of Fame honoree.
Julie loved working on political campaigns, especially in her home area of Roeland Park, KS. She was an avid reader of historical literature and an ardent Jayhawk Basketball fan.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Miller, on March 22, 2009. Survivors include her two sons, Hank (Deana) Miller, Lenexa, KS and Tom Miller, Overland Park, KS; sister, Mary Claire (John) Peppercorn, Houston, TX; and two grandchildren, Jillian Miller and Jake Miller. The family would like to thank Sunrise of Lenexa and Kansas City Hospice for their loving care.
A memorial visitation will be from 6-8 pm Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
