June W. Harlow

June Welker Harlow, 97, of Shawnee, KS passed away in Chattanooga, TN on October 22, 2015. June was born June 28, 1918 in Clifton, NJ to Adam William and Anna Emma (Demker) Welker. After high school she graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Passaic, NJ. She enlisted in the US Navy Nurse Corp. in 1942, and served until 1953. June was a surgical nurse at the US Naval Hospital #4 in Auckland, New Zealand during WWII and on the hospital ship USS Consolation during the Korean War. From 1955 to 1964, June worked at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone. While there, she met her husband, William, a sergeant in the US Army. June and Bill moved to Shawnee in 1967. June had been an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, La Sertoma and Shawnee Mission Indian Historical Society. She worked at Shawnee Mission Hospital until her retirement in 1984. June was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William H. Harlow, siblings Dorothy Welker, Winifred Bortlein, Lenore Smith and William Welker. June is survived by her daughter, Anne (Joseph) Lubinski of Chattanooga, TN, grandchildren, Theresa Lubinski, Daniel Lubinski, and Catherine (Josef) Pardue, great-grandchildren Alyssa and Cooper, and many nieces and nephews.

Services

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 30th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Shawnee, KS. The funeral service will immediately follow, starting at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
