Karen “Kay” Kliewer

January 18, 1945 — August 1, 2018

Karen K. Kliewer passed away on August 1, 2018 in her home in Merriam, KS. She was born January 18, 1945 in Parsons, KS and is preceded in death by her father John W. Kliewer and her mother Marie F. Kliewer. She is survived by her sister, Sue M. Robison of Shawnee, KS; her brother Douglas M. Kliewer of Moberly, MO; nephews Cole D. Robison of Lawrence, KS, Daniel J. Kliewer of Kansas City, MO, Matthew T. Kliewer of Columbia, MO; niece Cari L. Chapman of Lenexa, KS along with three grand nieces.

Kay graduated from St. Mary's of the Plains College in Dodge City, KS and earned her MRE Master in Religious Education at Loyola University in New Orleans, LA. Her teaching career began in 1967 at Stony Point North in KCK for four years and was followed by thirty-five years at St. Joseph Grade School in Shawnee, KS. During her teaching career she touched the hearts and minds of generations of families. She retired in 2007.

She was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS where she was quite active singing in the choir, as well as volunteering with Turnstyles Catholic Charities and Animal Haven.

Kay enjoyed reading, crafting and counted cross-stitch. She loved her dogs Tanner and Brewski and her travels to France, Italy, Ireland, Canada, and across the USA.

A Funeral Mass will held at Good Shepherd Catholic Church Saturday, August 4 at 10:30. Visitation will be before mass at 9:30-10:30. Her ashes will be interned at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Parsons, KS.
