Kathleen Mackenzie, 74, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on December 10, 2016. Kathleen Haberle Mackenzie was born April 17, 1942 in Syracuse, NY to Kathleen Brady Haberle and Alexander Roy Mackenzie, both of Syracuse. Kathleen was later adopted by her mother’s second husband, George G. Symes, Jr. She grew up during the heyday of the family brewery, Haberle Congress, in Syracuse and enjoyed hearing about its early history. Kathleen graduated from Sunset Hill School in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Duke University and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a BA in history. One of her favorite quotes were: “The love you take is equal to the love you make.” Kathleen’s passions were scrapbooking, photography, baseball, and most of all, relaxing with loved ones. She would say, “I’m one of these fortunate people who have reached their goals, and now I can leave this world at the top of my game rather than as some poor soul, unfulfilled or overcome with regrets. I have everything I’ve ever wanted: a son who grew into a fine man, a home of my very own, and the love of the most wonderful guy on the planet. What more could I possibly want?” Kathleen is survived by her son, Richard P. Porter; her brother-in-law, Alex Crow; the love of her life, Jeff Piwinski; and many true friends.
