Kathleen Percival

May 10, 1925 — January 29, 2013

Kathleen Percival, 87, of Overland Park, Kansas, slipped the chains that bound her on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, after a 10 year battle with Alzheimer's.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Keith, and her beloved husband of forty five years, Daryl.

Katie is survived by her two daughters and son-in laws, Cecelia & Steven Orcutt of Iola, KS, and Julie and Jim Knedlik of Overland Park, 3 grandaughters and 4 great grandchildren.

Affectionately called Katie, by family and friends, Katie was born on May 10, 1925 in Lincoln, KS, to the parents of Roscoe and Mabel Anderson. After graduating from Beverly High School, she attended Kansas State University and then began teaching in a one room schoolhouse.

In 1944, she married her high school sweetheart, Daryl Percival, and together they had 2 children, Cecelia and Julie. By 1958, the family moved to Kansas City where she and her husband became members of Southwest Bible Church. In later years they attended Valley View United Methodist Church. Katie worked for Macy’s for twenty years until she decided to retire with 20 years of service. Her incentive: the birth of her first grandchild, Shannon. For the following years, she spent her time with a granddaughter in tow.

In her later years, Katie added two more granddaughters, Kacee and Ashley. Katie loved life and she lived it to the fullest. Music set her toes to tapping, flowers flourished in her gardens and she was never without a good book and some M&M’s. But most of all, Katie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother whose selflessness knew no bounds. With grace, patience and humor, she guided her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Ks. A family graveside service will be the following day at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, Kansas.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the City Union Mission.
