December 14, 1916 — December 24, 2010

Kathleen Duncan Rahner of Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kansas, died Friday, December 24, 2010, at Kansas City Hospice House at the age of 94.

Kathy was born in Gentry County, Missouri, on December 14, 1916, the only child of Ross and Blondina Duncan. She graduated from King City High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing, then worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. In 1941, she married Richard G. Rahner, D.D.S. After Dr. Rahner’s service in the Navy during World War II, they made their home in Kansas City.

Kathy was an avid bridge player, an enthusiastic traveler, and an accomplished, if reluctant, cook. Kathy’s family and friends were blessed to share her unconditional love, unerring wisdom and irrepressible, irreverent wit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson, Stephen Kelly. She is survived by her daughter Sally Thompson, and husband Mike of Parkville, Missouri; son George Rahner and wife Nancy of Columbia, Missouri; grandson Chris Kelly and wife Alicia of Lenexa, Kansas; granddaughter Kristin Keane and husband Kenneth of Kansas City; grandson Matthew Rahner and Anmarie Gibson of Columbia, Missouri; granddaughter Katie Rahner of Kansas City; and great-grandchildren Jamie, Rachel and Bobby Kelly and Elsa Gibson-Rahner.

Donations in Kathy’s memory may be made to Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64145.
