Kenneth L. Chambers

April 30, 1955 — April 1, 2022

Kenneth L. Chambers, 66, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away Friday April 1, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Kenny (or Ken) was born April 30, 1955 in Pittsburg, Kansas. He resided in Kansas City, Kansas most of his life and was a 1974 graduate of Turner High School. In the ninth grade, he started dating June Spillman, who became the love of his life. They have been married for 47 years. Kenny was most proud of and happy about his marriage with June and the family they created together. They have one daughter, Heather, who along with her husband, Mark, have two children – Crosby and Langley. They have one son, Dustin, who along with his wife, Renee, have three children – Kolton, Ryker, and Kolbi. Kenny was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa who absolutely loved his family. And his family loved him right back.

When Kenny’s kids were younger, he enjoyed being involved in many of their activities – like coaching their teams and being involved in Scouts. He spent much of his time trying to help kids and his impact was felt by many. He was also well known for and excelled at letting refs and umpires know how he felt from the sidelines!

Kenny worked for over 30 years as an elevator constructor and mechanic for the IUEC Local 12. Kenny retired in 2008 after having open-heart surgery. Since then, Kenny has faced many health concerns, but his toughness and example never wavered. He was the strongest person we will ever know.  In retirement, Kenny and June were able to spend time at the Lake of the Ozarks and attend their grandkids events.

In addition to spending time with his family, Kenny liked to fish, cheer on the Royals, Chiefs, and Jayhawks (I bet he had something to do with the second half turnaround the other night for the National Championship), watch cooking shows (like Guy Fieri), read (especially westerns), cook, grill, and smoke meat on his Traeger grill, and visit with all his wonderful friends and neighbors at Sorrento. He was hard working, patient, loving, tough as nails, and a great example of what a man should be. We’ll miss him like crazy.

Kenny is preceded in death by his parents; brother Bobby Bolte; and brother James L. Chambers II.

Kenny is survived by wife June; daughter Heather Sheppard and husband Mark; son Dustin Chambers and wife Renee; grandkids Crosby and Langley Sheppard; grandkids Kolton, Ryker, and Kolbi Chambers; and brother Gene Chambers.

Kenny requested no services. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Kenny would say to give your kids and grandkids a big hug!
