Kenneth Joseph Obermeyer was born on 19 June 1931 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ken married Loyce L Craig of Kansas City, Kansas, on 18 November 1950. Together they built their home in Shawnee, Kansas, and raised eight successful children. Loyce preceded Ken in death on 08 Jan 2008. Ken spent 20 years in the US Navy as an air traffic controller where he was known as âObie'. Upon his Naval retirement in 1969, Ken was Flight Instructor with TWA airlines for many years and later enjoyed a successful career with the Prudential Insurance company in the Kansas City area. Ken is survived by his eight children and their spouses: Becky and Bill James of Dallas, Ga; Mike and Kathryn Obermeyer of Phenix City, AL; Cathy and Richard Striggow of Wakefield, KS; Cindy Obermeyer of Fredericksburg, VA; Andrew Obermeyer of Chester, VA; John and Karen Obermeyer of Belton, MO; Sherry MacPherson of Shawnee, KS; and Mary and David Ptak of Fredericksburg, VA. The joys in Ken's later years were his 19 grandchildren and his 17 great-grandchildren. Ken's family was his passion, his hobby and his entertainment. Dad and grandpa always had many memories of the olden days to share with all. Ken is survived by one brother, David Obermeyer of Cincinnati Ohio. Ken went to be with our Lord on 25 April 2014.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Sunday May 4, 2014 at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas with a Rosary starting at 5:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas, at 10:00 am on Monday May 5, 2014. He will be buried in Leavenworth National Cemetery, with full military honors at 12:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to one of Ken's favorite charitable organizations, St Jude's Children's Hospital.
