Kevin James Bentele, 62, passed away January 9, 2022, at Providence Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas. Kevin was born December 9, 1959, in St Joseph, Missouri. The son of Norbert Bentele and Carol Joyce (Landes-Bentele) Morgan. After graduating from Quincy Senior High School, Quincy, Illinois, in 1977, Kevin attended College at the University of Kansas and Johnson County Community College, and worked as a programmer for Sprint for many years.
Beloved by all who knew him, Kevin was a bright light. Fiercely independent, he always marched to the beat of his own drum and that is exactly what we all loved so much about him. He was wickedly funny, intelligent, creative, opinionated and curious about the world. He loved music, books, cooking, gardening and being with the people he loved. He was generous to a fault - always doing random acts of kindness or buying things to make others smile. His laughter was infectious and he was very generous with that too.
Kevin was fun to be around and he made even mundane things seem like an adventure. He was loyal and loving to his family and friends. He was a “no fuss” person, didn’t crave the lime-light, and was a fiercely private person. Kevin didn’t like saying good bye. We would all be at a gathering and he would just quietly slip out the door. And we all knew that was, well, Kevin’s way. So, in that spirit, Kevin, we all love you very very much, we won’t say good bye - instead, with our broken hearts, we will say, see you soon, dear-est Kevin, Rest In Peace.
Preceded in death by his father, Norbert Bentele, his step father, James Basgall, and niece, Caitlin Morgan. Kevin is survived by his Mother, Carol Joyce Morgan, of Merriam KS; his daughter, Jessica Kay (Geoff) Staten, and his grandchildren, Gianna and Genevieve of Tomball, TX; brothers and sister: Robert Vincent (Kathleen Morast) Bentele, of Overland Park, KS; Karen Ann (Brian Rothermel) Bentele of Machesney Park, IL; Kelly William Bentele, of Machesney Park, IL; A. Blane Morgan of Kansas City, KS; and Jackie Lynn (Mary) Morgan of Las Vegas, NV, and his beloved companion, Carlos Rodriguez of Overland Park, KS.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Kevin would want you to be kind to one another and donate to a charity that betters other’s lives.
