Laura Maher

Laura Francis Maher, 93, of Roeland Park, KS, passed away on November 10, 2020.

Lolly was born in Freeman, Missouri, on June 7, 1927, to the late Harry and Myrtie Williams.  She was the third of four girls (Louise, Milly, and Dora).  She spent most of her childhood in Fort Collins, Colorado, and graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

She married Michael (Joe) Maher on September 4, 1948, and they spent 65 happy years together, over 50 years in Roeland Park, where they bought their home in 1958.  As a young adult, Laura was an artist for Hall Brothers (Hallmark), working fulltime until she became a mother, and then working freelance from home for many years. After her own children were mostly raised, she indulged her love of children and worked part time in children's daycare at Christ Church of Overland Park and Saint Ann's Church of Prairie Village, where she worked until she was 80 years old.

Laura is survived by her five children and their spouses: Cherie & Allen West, Deborah & Mark McCurnin, Bridget & Bob Carr, Michael Maher & David Sobeck, and Becky & James Summers.  They also have six grandchildren and their spouses: Kelly & Travis Chapman, Brendan & Megan West, Dana Carr, Meghan & Zack Franke, Reuben & Summer Carr, and Winston & Ginger Carr.  They were also blessed with nine great grandchildren: Cale, Gage, Lilyan, Liam, Carson, Darby, Quinton, Finley, and Maeve.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 16, at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee KS, 10am-noon.  Masks are required, and visits will be very brief.  She will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa.

The family encourages donations to KC Pet Project, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and St. Luke's Hospice Care.
