Lawrence Edmund Chandlee, 85, of Shawnee, passed away Sunday, December 14, 2014.

Larry was born May 31, 1929 to Ellis and Louise Chandlee in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Lillis High School in 1947. Larry was drafted into the Army on February 26, 1951. He served as an artilleryman during the Korean War and was discharged on February 25, 1953. On April 25, 1953 Larry married Mary Ann Kremer in Seneca, Kansas. Larry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the American Quarter Horse Association, Buckskin Registry Association, Kansas Buckskin Horse Association and the New Mexico Buckskin Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the farm where he raised buckskin quarter horses and cattle. He loved traveling, spending time outdoors fishing for crappie, hunting quail and pheasant. Larry was also proud of his award winning buckskin horse, Joker. He worked for Hallmark Cards for 41 years and retired on May 31, 1989 as a Creative Workshop Manager.

Larry was a dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his adoring wife of 61 years, Mary Ann; four children, Diane M. Daschke (Dave); James E. Chandlee (Jan Shuck); Linda L. Schmack (Greg); Carol A. Fangman (Joe); ten grandchildren, Kelly, Brian, Aaron, Jason, Justin, Alison, Valerie, Ryan, Brandon, and Austin; three great granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Leah, Mattie; a sister in law, Rosemary Chandlee; brother in law, Jacob Kremer and many nieces, nephews and friends. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Aubrey, sister, Mary Louise and daughter in law, Rebecca Chandlee.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 17 at the Amos Family Funeral Home. The rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday December 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church; American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
