Lawrence “Larry” Gillard died peacefully surrounded by his family after a long battle with MS. He passed away in his home of more than 40 years, in Mission, Kansas on March 12, 2012. Larry was 62 years old.
He was born the son of Lewis and Patricia Gillard on January 10, 1950, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers: Louie, Johnny and Tony Gillard. Larry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patty Gillard, his daughters, Melissa (Evan) Goldsmith and Angela (Chris) Brooks, 7 grandchildren: Andrew-21 (Tori), Austin-18, Emma-14, Cal-11, Mollie Mae-9, Charlie-5 and Jackson-3, and sister, Lori Burnett.
Larry was an avid gardener, sport enthusiast (watched every Oklahoma Sooners game), outstanding athlete, had an ear for all types of music, loved all types of food (wouldn’t miss a meal), and went to as many of his grandchildren’s activities and games as he could.
We would like to say a special thank you to all the nurses and caretakers from St. Lukes Hospice. Without your kindness, support and guidance, our family could not have cared for Larry in his own home.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 15, 2012, with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mission, Kansas. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2012, also at the church.
