Lawrence L. “Larry” Youngblood

May 17, 1936 — January 10, 2021

Lawrence L. Youngblood (Larry), 80, passed away Jan. 10, following an accident in his home.

Born May 17, 1936 to Oscar “Tuck” Youngblood and Henrietta (Morrison) Youngblood, Larry grew up in Westwood, KS, which he affectionately called “Dogpatch.” He graduated in 1954 from Shawnee Mission HS (now SM North), where he was a track star, amassing a number of records that lasted decades.

Larry met the love of his life, Jeanne Lang, in 1952. They were married in 1955, and were inseparable during their 62 years of matrimony.

Larry was a doting father to three rambunctious boys. He attended hundreds of sporting events played by his sons, and was always up for a game of H.O.R.S.E. in the driveway. A lifelong KU fan, Larry lived (basketball) and died (football) with the Jayhawks.

Larry was a linen supply salesman for many years, a job he disliked but performed diligently to help support his family.

In retirement, Larry and Jeanne loved to travel, and toured Europe, the Caribbean, and Egypt. In 1996, Larry was selected to carry the Olympic torch as it passed through KC-a thrill he never forgot. He was also proud to have finished the New York City marathon in 1991.

Larry was a good man, loved by friends and family alike.

Larry leaves his wife Jeanne Lang Youngblood; sons Bill Youngblood (Cindy), Prairie Village; Steven Youngblood (Barbara), Parkville; and Kevin Youngblood, Leavenworth; Brothers Tucky Youngblood (Pam), Shawnee, and Gary Youngblood (Debbie), La Paz, Mexico; grandsons Joe, Ben, and Alex Youngblood; international adopted grandchildren from Azerbaijan, Moldova, Uganda, Tanzania, and Syria; and Amy (poodle).
