Leo Burns

April 22, 1936 — January 4, 2016

Leo Burns was born April 22, 1936, to Leo Leslie and Lela Wiser Burns in Kansas City, Missouri. He passed away January 4, 2016, at his home in Merriam, Kansas. Leo graduated from Westport High School in 1954 and after working several jobs in the Kansas City area, worked for and retired from Sprint in 2005.

In 1956 Leo's son, Brian Edward Burns, was born. Leo and Brian always had a very special bond, and to this day, Brian refers to his Dad as his hero.

On a very, very cold and icy November 21, 1964, Leo married Glenda Gayle Martindale. For anyone who knew Leo, you can appreciate his quirky sense of humor when he told Glenda she wouldn't have married him if he hadn't been "arm candy". Fifty-one years later they were still best friends…one heart in two people…soul mates.

Leo loved Glenda, Brian, his grandchildren, his family and close friends, and his Great Danes (not necessarily in that order) with a passion that he reserved for very few. He was funny and smart and would have moved heaven and earth to make those he loved happy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Robert Leslie Burns. He leaves his wife of the home, Brian Burns and his wife Jody of Lenexa, Kansas, granddaughter Sabrie Burns of Olathe, Kansas, grandson Ryan Burns and his wife Christina of Lenexa, Kansas, brother, Alvin Raymond Burns and his wife, Jill, Ottumwa, Iowa, and sister-in-law Nancy Burns of Overland Park, Kansas.

There will be a gathering of family and friends at Brian and Jody’s home on Sunday, January 17th, 2:00 pm til 4:00 pm. The address is 15106 West 84th Street, Lenexa, KS 66219.
