Leontine Cecelia (Jackson) Smith, days short of her 100th birthday, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in Shawnee, KS. Thomas E. Smith, her dear husband of 61 years, preceded her in death on December 6, 2001.

Leontine and family were residents of Turner, Kansas for many years. She was very active in American Legion Post #327 for many years, and served in various leadership roles in the Ladies Auxillary. She was also a member of St. Joseph's Ladies Auxillary Guild, and the Legion's 8 & 40.

Leontine is survived by her children, Thomas P. Smith; Daniel E. Smith (Penny); James J. Smith (Kathy); Teresa VanSant (Cal); Bernard J. Smith; 12 grandchildren, Rodney Smith (Kristina), Jeri Glynn (Andy), Thad Smith, Anna Smith, Adam Smith (Jing), Ryan Smith (Marci), Nick VanSant, Tess VanSant, Alex VanSant, David Smith (Emily), Phil Smith (Lisa), Jessica Young and 10 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff and volunteers at Brookdale who loved and cared for Mom for the last six years.

Visitation and Services

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 16th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203.

Memorial Contributions

The family will receive friends starting at 9:30 am Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or American Legion Post #327, 6521 Nieman Rd, Shawnee, KS 66203.
