Linda Margaret Conger

November 7, 1939 — November 2, 2017

Linda Margaret Conger, 77, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away unexpectedly the evening of November 2, 2017 at Liberty Hospital due to complications from pneumonia.

Born November 7th, 1939 to Donald and Vera Day, she grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri, enjoying her family and friends at Central High School (many of whom she was still in touch with to this day), only to move to Prairie Village and graduate Shawnee Mission High School in 1957.

At Kansas University, Linda was an avid member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, majoring in Occupational Therapy and meeting her future husband, Dennis, in an anatomy class. She left after three and a half years to take care of her ailing mother, Vera; Dennis and Linda married later that year on December 30th, 1960, while she was working in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at KU Medical Center. Dennis was doing his residency there as well, in the Physical Therapy sciences.

Linda dedicated her life to so many things- her husband, always there for him through work and play, life and eventually his passing; her kids- never missing a football game or tennis match or an opportunity to coach or bake or cheer them on; her friends, especially her close neighbors- always there, as a good listener as well as someone to laugh with (A LOT!); her work at Jackson County Physical Therapy, Venture Financial, and later Creative Care, as a home health caregiver.

One of Linda's most exciting moments was when she was asked to join PEO by her step-mother, Sallie Day. She has enjoyed the fellowship and love of the Chapter F ladies from Kansas City for over 30 years, attending as often as possible and relishing the friendships and joy that they have all mutually shared. She would cook or co-hostess often, and speak for weeks about it afterward.

Linda loved to travel, especially with her family and close relatives which she adored, but sometimes with her St. Joe friends, or neighborhood pals- the stories of her travels have been endless. And hilarious! To know Linda was to absolutely love her- her quick wit, her jokes and stories out of nowhere, and questions and moments that she had staged- on purpose- to keep everyone around her rolling! It seems that EVERYONE has at least one fantastic Linda story…!

Linda was also an avid tennis and card player- bridge with her neighbors and groups, and later poker and blackjack on occasion with oh so many special friends.

Linda was preceded in death by her loving husband Dennis L. Conger and brother Donald W. Day of Reno, Nevada.  She is survived by her children, daughter Kathryn (Kathy) Conger-Bickham and husband Terry of Lee's Summit, Missouri; their adult children Sarah and Jonathan Bickham; and her son Scott Conger and wife Cyndi of Kansas City, Kansas.

Living life to the fullest, she belonged to several groups and clubs, including:

PEO Chapter F of Kansas City, Missouri; Gamma Phi Beta KU Chapter; Country Club United Methodist Church; St Joseph's Class of 1957 "La Dee Da's" group; her bible study group; Homestead Country Club (tennis); and the Eagle's Club of Shawnee.

Linda has touched the lives of so many and will be sadly missed.

Celebration of Life services will be held November 30th at 1:00pm, Country Club United Methodist Church, 400 W. 57th Street, KCMO.

Donations can be made to the PEO Star Fund in her honor at the church or to Kathy or Scott: http://www.peointernational.org/about-peo-star-scholarship-star
