Linda Marie Paulsen

March 22, 1951 — October 8, 2021

Linda Marie Paulsen, age 70, passed away peacefully with her family on October 8th, 2021 at Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation in Olathe, KS after a year-long battle and brave struggle with Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD). A remembrance service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 16th, 2021 at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas.

Linda was preceded in death by her father Michael Sturges of Clear Lake, IA. She is survived by her mother Marjorie Sturges of Austin, TX, sister Sandra Lichman of Austin, TX, brother Dennis Sturges (Denise) of St. Ansgar, IA; son Jacob Giesler (Theresa) of Olathe, KS, daughter Amanda Giesler of Lenexa, KS; six grandchildren, Asia Williams, Andrew Manakul, Alex Manakul, Grace Giesler, Emma Giesler, Cecilia Giesler and one great-grandchild Laphonso McKinnis Jr.

Linda was born in Mason City, IA. She moved to Kansas City, MO and earned her LPN nursing degree from The University of Kansas Medical Center. She then began working at St. Mary’s hospital in Blue Springs, MO. Linda met her first husband in nursing school and they moved to St. Augustine, FL. She put her nursing career on hold while living in Florida and had her son Jacob. She then moved back to Kansas City, MO a couple years later and had her daughter Amanda. Linda didn’t immediately return to nursing, but instead started her own construction cleaning company that she ran for around 10 years. She worked very hard throughout her life, always independent, always a go-getter. These values and work ethics were instilled within her children, who saw it first-hand as “employees” from time to time. She spent a lot of years as a single mother, working multiple jobs to make ends meet, cleaning new construction builds during the day and waitressing at night. Linda’s family was her number one priority, providing for them in whatever they needed. She always found time to attend her kids and grand-kids activities. She spent the next 5 or 6 years in the retail industry as a store manager. After the death of her father who went on hospice services in 2008 after a stroke, Linda felt her call to return to the nursing field. Although it had been 20+ years since she held her nursing license, she contacted the Kansas State Board of Nursing and began an online refresher course through South Dakota State University. After completion of online classes, she finished with 80 hours of clinicals at Carondelet Manor Long Term Care and Rehab in Kansas City, MO in March, 2010. Linda then renewed her Missouri and Kansas License in 2010. Linda was offered a position as an LPN/Charge Nurse at Sharon Lane Health Services and the rest is history. She worked at multiple assisted living and nursing homes around the KC area and always said she just loved helping people that couldn’t help themselves a lot of the time. After retiring in 2015 she found the time to travel, something she never really found time to do before. But even during retirement, she continued as a nurse on a part time basis and loved every minute of it.

Linda’s family wishes to extend the most sincere thank you to the staff at Phoenix Home Care and Hospice as well as Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation in Olathe. Linda spent her last 6 months there once her family unfortunately could no longer care for her at her residence. On her passing, it was very obvious she had touched the lives of both organizations; the love and kindness shown to her will be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to NORD (National Organization of Rare Disease) - https://rarediseases.org/
