Lloyd E.C. Thomas passed away peacefully at St Lukes Hospice House on December 30, 2014. Lloyd was born July 2nd 1929 to Murvin and Leora (Selby) Thomas in Kansas City Mo. Lloyd leaves behind his wife of 65 years Mary Ann (Helm) Thomas, son Bob Thomas ( Jan) of Fort Wayne In, grand children Angie Montgomery (Dustin) of Indianapolis, In. & Dr. Sean Thomas (Betsy) of Fort Wayne, IN. great-grandchildren Sloane & Von Montgomery, and brother-in-law John Brooks. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, son Dan Thomas, and sister-in-law Virginia (Helm) Brooks. Lloyd lived most of his life in the Kansas City area and graduated from Westport High school in 1947 . He was an accomplished high school football athlete and was offered college scholarship opportunities, but suspended that for marriage and to start a career and family. Lloyd was a member of the Old Mission Masonic Lodge. He served nine years in the Naval Reserve, served two years on the Planning Commission for the city of Roeland Park, Ks, two years on the Parks & Recreation Commission for the city of Mission,Ks, and was elected three consecutive terms as city councilman for the city of Mission,Ks. Lloyd touched the lives of many young athletes and families due to his passion for youth sports. Lloyd coached ten years in the Johnson County 3&2 program and served as area director for four years. He also coached ten years in the Johnson County YMCA Football program and served four years as district chairman. After having completed his associate degree in design engineering and being inducted as a member of Phi Theta Kappa national honor society, Lloyd retired after a thirty two year career as a route salesman in the Industrial laundry business for G&K Services. Lloyd then continued his final 15 year working career retiring from various engineering and drafting technical positions that mostly included working for Butler Manufacturing Company and Malcolm Miller Inc. Lloyd is remembered by most as always smiling and laughing. He enjoyed lake life at their Lake of the Ozarks summer home they designed and built, especially when hosting his extended family's vacations. Most of all Lloyd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who enjoyed family.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Friday at The Amos Family Funeral Home 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Ks. Funeral service will be 10 am Saturday at Amos Family Funeral Home and will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Cemetery 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd. K.C.M.O.
