Lois Virginia Hammons

October 10, 1926 — May 2, 2020

Lois Virginia Hammons, 93, of Shawnee, KS died Saturday, May 2, 2020 with family by her side at Sharon Lane Health and Rehabilitation where she had lived following a debilitating fall and Alzheimer's.

Lois was born October 10, 1926 to the late Raymond and Elsie Carter.  She graduated from Holden High School in 1945 and married Finis E. Hammons the following summer on August 4, 1946 in Kansas City, MO.  For the majority of their married life, Lois was a stay at home mother (homemaker) raising their two children. Her only occupation outside the home was working for Williamsburg Pipeline.  From Kansas City, MO they moved to Merriam, KS where they lived until Finis' retirement in 1972 when they moved to Polk County, MO to an eighty acre farm to raise beef and moved into town (Bolivar, MO) in 1998 when they sold the farm.  Their final move completed the circle when they returned to Shawnee and welcomed the birth of their first great-granddaughter.  Lois attended the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, attended Bible studies and renewed friendships from the many years prior to their move south.   Sharon Lane was her home for the last five years where she was rarely in her room as she genuinely enjoyed the friendships and activities that she participated in.

She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-nine years;  an infant daughter, Virginia Lee; and her four brothers.  Surviving is her sister, Lucille Duncan, Warrensburg, MO; her two children, a son, Jim (Vickie) Hammons, Shawnee; a daughter, Connie Jean (Magnus) Lindqvist, Ft. Myers, FL; three grandchildren, Jeff (Brooke) Hammons, Shawnee; Jared Pece, Washington D. C.; Kay (Scott) Dye, Broomfield, CO; two great-granddaughters, Rowan Hammons and Aliyah Dye; and two "Bonus" great-grandsons, Jackson and Jameson Dye; friends and family.  She will be deeply missed by all but never forgotten.

Lois will be laid to rest next to her husband in a private family ceremony in Pittsville Cemetery in Pittsville, Missouri.
