Lois Elaine (Tonjes) Haubein, 96, of Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away on September 2, 2018 at Brighton Gardens, Prairie Village, Kansas.
Lois was born July 11, 1922, at Fort Dodge, Iowa to Gerd and Hermine (Graalmann) Tonjes. At an early age she moved with her parents to Carthage, Missouri. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1940. In 1942, she graduated from Joplin Junior College, now Missouri Southern State University. Following graduation, she was employed by Central National Bank in Carthage, now the United Missouri Bank.
She married Arden Haubein, of Lockwood, Missouri at Faith Lutheran Church in Carthage on December 29, 1948. After living in Springfield, Missouri for sixteen years, they moved to Prairie Village, Kansas, where Arden was employed by the Meyer Lumber Company. On the death of her husband in 2006, Lois moved to Overland Park Place in Overland Park, Kansas. Lois was a member of Trinity Luther Church, Mission, Kansas.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Tonjes and his wife, Lorraine, of Overland Park; a sister-in-law, Pamela Tonjes, of Tyler, Texas; seven nieces and nephews and many grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years; her parents; a sister, Dorothea Hickey, Overland Park, Kansas; and two brothers, Donald Tonjes, Springfield, Illinois, and Richard Tonjes, Tyler, Texas.
Visitation will be 10-10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church 5601 W. 62nd Street, Mission, KS. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Meinert, Missouri.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to The Lutheran Hour Ministries or to Trinity Lutheran Church Foundation in care of the church.
