Lois Lee (Eiberger) Rooney, 86, Prairie Village, KS, passed away peacefully Monday, November 14th, 2022 surrounded by family. She was born in Stanberry, Missouri to Leo Eiberger and Dorothy Wade and was the oldest of 3 siblings, John and Kenny Eiberger.
Growing up the granddaughter of German immigrants in a small farming community during WWII provided Lois a strong faith, love and understanding of nature, and incredible work ethic. She was a bold, curious, and independent woman for her time, joining the foreign service at the young age of 24. In her three years of service in Rangoon, Burma, Lois traveled much of Asia and India, growing her wonder for the world and collecting incredible treasures her family enjoys to this day.
In 1963, she married Craig Rooney and moved to Prairie Village Kansas where she spent the remainder of her life as a thoughtful, energetic, demanding, sometimes silly, social butterfly. Lois embodied a true “Kennedy Catholic” spirit, dedicating her life to the service of others. With a true open mind and heart, she helped underprivileged youth in North Kansas City find stability, settled Vietnamese and Laotian refugees, led CCD classes and community activities, and ensured each child felt special as she tendered their lunch money at Corinth Elementary.
Her family celebrates her busy life as a community leader, mother, wife, adventurer, and sometime square dancer. She taught all those around her to live with an open mind and a smile in your heart. And if you were lucky – how to jar your own jelly, cook a mean fried chicken, and identify the edible plants in your own back yard. Her genuine zest for life will be remembered by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Craig Rooney, and 4 children; Chris (Lucia) Rooney, Brian (Mary Ann) Rooney, Sarah (Ben MacConnell) Rooney, and Elizabeth (Mark Antrim) Rooney, as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A mass will be held for her at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17th, 2022 at St Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66208 with a reception following. All are welcome.
