Loren Franklin Bound

January 19, 1940 — April 2, 2010

Loren Franklin Bound, 70, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2010 after a 5 year battle with cancer, and is now present with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Loren was a kind and gentle man, perhaps best known for helping others and his sense of humor. Loren was born January 19, 1940, to Mabel and Oren Bound. He was born in Independence, Kansas and raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He especially enjoyed his service time spent in Germany because he made a lifelong friendship with Bill “Willy” Junes.

Loren began a career with Montgomery Ward and transferred to Kansas City with the company in 1970 where he continued his employment as a regional merchandiser until 1983. He ran his own business, J & L Minor Home Repair from 1983 until 1999 when he was forced to retire due to health concerns. The home repair business was a true passion for him and he took great pride in his work. In conjunction with his home repair business, he also taught various non-credit home repair courses for Johnson County Community College from 1988-1999. In 2006 he began working part time at Barnett Brass Inc in Lenexa, Kansas. He loved this job because it kept him busy and he was able to make new friends.

He had many interests. He was an avid fisherman, a collector of rubber duckies, an amateur photographer, and a fan of NASCAR, the KC Chiefs, and the Pittsburg Steelers. He enjoyed playing the piano and banjo. In 2009 he proudly completed the Citizens Police Academy at the Lenexa Police Department. He enjoyed driving around in his Mazda Miata convertible and spending time with his family and dog.

He was preceded in death by his father Oren Bound, and his stepfather Hughlan Parker. Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Naydne Bound, his mother Mabel Parker of Farmington, New Mexico, his sister Betty (Larry) Bryant of Farmington, New Mexico, his son Jim (Vivian) Bound of Hillsboro, Ohio, his daughter Debby (Virgel) Stigall of Olathe, Kansas, and four grandchildren; Steven Bound, Kristin Bound, Paul Stigall and Carter Stigall.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the City of Lenexa’s Relay for Life benefiting the American Cancer Society. To donate, go to: www.relayforlife.org/shnlnxks Click on “Donate Here” and enter the team name “Lenexa”. Donations are also suggested to the Kansas City Hospice House.
