Loren Dean Balderston

Loren Dean Balderston, 99, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023.  He was born on November 4, 1924 in Clifton, Kansas to Harvey and Olive (Loyd) Balderston.

Dean is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Virgie Elaine (Lundquist) Balderston; brothers, John Balderston, Sam Balderston, and Wilmer Balderston.  He is survived by his three sons, Mark Balderston, DC, Shawnee, Kansas, wife Lou Ann, Lance Balderston, Olathe, Kansas, Kurt Balderston, Wildwood, Missouri, wife Angela; five granddaughters, Christi Bartlett, M.D., Lauren Cloyd, Rachel Balderston, Addie Balderston, and Lilly Balderston and nine great-grandchildren.

Dean graduated from Clifton Rural High School in 1943.  While at Clifton Rural High School, he lettered in Football, played in the band for four years, sang in the Glee Club and mixed chorus. He was also a member of the boy’s quartette and mixed octetbel in addition to playing Reggie Van Twiller in the junior play, “Faith, Hope and Flarity.”

While serving in the Army, he was a Staff Sergeant of the 187th, Glider Infantry Regiment from January 31, 1945 to December 4, 1946 while serving in Japan.

Dean worked for Farmland Industries for 34 years as a Credit Administer. Retiring in 1986.  He loved his wife, Virgie, along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would be there for all their events until his health did not allow.

The family would like to thank the staff at Westchester Village for their care over the last several years, and the staff at Ascend Hospice for the tremendous love and care they provided during Dean's final weeks.

Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5th, at Amos Family Funeral Home with a funeral service to immediately follow.  Cremation to follow.
