Louise Edna Kill

September 27, 1922 — September 1, 2012

Mrs. Louise Edna Kill (nee Smith), 89, of Overland Park, passed away early Saturday morning, September 1, 2012, after a long illness.

Louise was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on September 27, 1922, to Olga and Daniel Smith. After being raised on a farm in Manitoba, she attended United College and later Teacher’s College and became a teacher for 10 years. As a young student, Louise excelled at softball, eventually joining a semi-pro team in Manitoba, and loved several other sports, including skating, curling, hockey, and golf. In May of 2004, she was inducted into the Manitoba Ladies’ Softball Hall of Fame.

Her other many interests included tailoring, gardening, and cooking. Her interest in cooking led her to establish a business as a caterer, working at church weddings and other receptions. Her many activities at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church included work as a Garden Angel, event planning, and singing in the choir. Her creative talents also included art, which she produced in several media, using that talent to decorate her long-time home in Overland Park. She and her husband traveled extensively, and she was fascinated by nature and the study of birds, in particular.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edmund C. Kill; daughter Dorothy K. Rone and Dorothy’s husband Kurt Rone and grandchildren Christina and Jessica Rone, all of Overland Park; daughter Colleen P. Kill and Colleen’s husband David K. Ringwood, both of Simi Valley, California; sister Dorothy Fuhrman of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada; nephew Martin Davies of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; nephews Wayne, Gregg, Edmund, and Dudley Kill and niece Deborah Kill, all of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

She rests now at peace with the Lord. A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, followed by a visitation there at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
