Lupe Cisneros

Guadalupe Maria Zuniga (Lupe) Cisneros, 80, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away on April 8, 2012, at home, surrounded by her family.

Lupe was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up on Kansas City's west side, attending Guadalupe Parish. As a child, she enjoyed family trips to Chicago. She worked at Swift and Company in Kansas City for 45 years before retiring to spend time with her beloved husband, whom she met at work although they grew up 1 block apart. Several years after retiring, Lupe joined The Jones Store in Prairie Village and was working until the day of her death.

Lupe is preceded in death by her husband Cipriano G. Cisneros, and her parents Beatrice and Ernest Zuniga and many other family members and friends, including Beatrice Aquino and Aurora Watson.

Lupe is survived by her son Michael Cisneros (Rebecca Caley); daughter Rita Cisneros; grandson Michael Cisneros (Meaghan Healy); granddaughters Ali Rennert (Bryce Hamilton) and Gabby Rennert (Jake Castillo); great granddaughters Eden Hamilton and Gianna Cisneros; great grandson Dante Castillo. sisters Tina Cantu, Maria Hayes, Cecelia Valzez (Jesse Valdez); and brothers, John Zuniga and German Zuniga.

Lupe was a wonderful woman and a very hard worker. In her personal life, she loved to bake, cook for her family, crochet and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 1983, Lupe donated one of her kidneys to her son, Michael. She had many dedicated friends. In her work life, Lupe was one of the best. She had the highest seniority and Swift when she retired and received many awards for excellence from both The Jones Store and Macy's.

Lupe was a Catholic and a strong believer in Jesus. Easter was always her favorite holiday and the family is comforted by the fact that they were all gathered together with her when she passed.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gary Johnson and the staff at KU Cancer Center, the Sweet Life at Rosehill and especially Catholic Charities Hospice.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Inurnment will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
