Luther E. Cochran

Luther E. Cochran, 89, of Merriam, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Luther was born October 3, 1920 to Edwin and Athalia (Nance) Cochran in Merriam, Kansas. Luther graduated from Gardner High School in 1938. Luther joined the United States Army Air Corps and served as a Radio Operator during World War II. Shortly after returning from his military service, Luther started his long career in real estate. Luther married Betty Angus April 22, 1948, in Shawnee, she preceded him in death after 52 years of marriage on May 4, 2000. Eventually Luther and Betty started their own business, Cochran Realty before retiring in 1990. He was a charted member of the Johnson County Board of Realtors. Luther was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, and the American Legion. Luther is survived by his son Dean Cochran and wife Stephanie, Overland Park; two grandchildren, Kristen and Kyle both of Overland Park. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to City Union Mission, 1100 E. 11th St., Kansas City, Missouri 64106, or to Harvesters, P.O. Box 4122233, Kansas City, Missouri 64141-2233. Visitation and Funeral Services Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Chapel.
