M. Charlotte Davis

d. March 24, 2015

Charlotte Davis, 97, of Overland Park, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Garden Terrace of Overland Park.

Charlotte was born in Twin Falls, Idaho. She was adopted six days after her birth and moved to Vinita, Oklahoma. She remembered very little about her adopted mother since she died when Charlotte was only four years old. She was then raised by her grandparents surrounded by many aunts and uncles. After high school, Charlotte moved to Joplin, Missouri, where she completed a four year nursing program at St. John's Hospital. Later she moved to Kansas City to work and live. Charlotte began working at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in 1961 when it had just opened. She retired in 1982 having spent her entire career there in the medical surgery unit. After retiring, Charlotte returned to the hospital as a volunteer. She served in that capacity until 2005. Her favorite part of the volunteer work was passing out the pay checks. You can bet everyone loved to see Charlotte come their way.

Charlotte was married for many years to Paul Davis who preceded her in death in 1978. She belonged to several Masonic related Orders including the Order of the Eastern Star - Beatrice Chapter; Order of True Kindred - Ruth Conclave #13 where she served as Worthy Grand Commander of Kansas; and the Daughters of the Nile where she served as Past Queen. Charlotte enjoyed traveling on numerous trips with the Shriners to Hawaii and Germany. Having lived in the same home for fifty years in Shawnee; Charlotte has seen a lot of change in this area. She played the piano and organ and had a great appreciation for music. She also enjoyed crocheting and other hand crafts.

Charlotte is survived by her dear friend Lucy Walker and husband James; two step-daughters, Florine McClain; Shirley Zork and husband Warren; and their many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
