Mable M. (VanLerberg) Creten, 93, lifelong Shawnee, Kansas resident passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at her home.

Mable was born Dec. 21, 1920 to Aime and Maria (LeFevre) VanLerberg on the family farm at 65th and Neiman Road, Shawnee, Kansas. She was very proud of her Belgian heritage and a devoted lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she attended her early education. She was a member of the St. Barbara's Circle at St. Joseph. On February 11, 1941, Mable married John B. Creten at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. She took great pride in caring for her family and enjoyed working side by side with John at their skating rinks. Mable and John enjoyed traveling to Belgium, Las Vegas and Arizona.

Mable was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John B. Creten on February 26, 2012, daughter, Marcie A. Sorensen on Oct. 15, 2001, granddaughter, Jessica Creten, December 27, 1984 and two brothers, Paul and Dick VanLerberg. Survivors include her two sons, J. Gary (Tammy) Creten, Olathe, Kansas and Ron (Peggy) Creten, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; brother, Maurice (Mary) VanLerberg; sister-in-law, Janet VanLerberg, Lenexa, Kansas; five grandchildren, Gretchen Caraher, Dea Sorensen, Nick Creten, Tara Cox, and Lucas Creten; and 12 great grandchildren. Mable was a beautiful lady, with a big smile and a heart of gold. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mass of Christian Burial

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 11 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; entombment in the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the church, where a rosary recitation will be at 4:00 p.m..
