Marcia Kay Chambers

June 29, 1941 — November 15, 2020

Mom of the year recipient, Marcia Kay Chambers (Jones / Levin) departed for her heavenly home Sunday November 15th, in the disastrous year of COVID, 2020. Leaving family members in tears but smiling while reminiscing and sharing their treasured memories of her. Marcia was born to a very special couple (our grandparents), William Leroy Jones and Ruth Elizabeth Johnston, June 29, 1941 in Eskridge, Kansas.

Marcia spent her life in Topeka, spreading joy, fun, Love and her honest opinions to the many, many people she met.  She attended Oakland elementary school, Holiday Junior High and she graduated from Topeka High in 1959.

Marcia worked at Peacock laundry in Holiday square where she met her first Love. They married and created 3 amazing (we're a little biased on this one) children whom survive her.

Randy (Tammie) Levin, Bristow Oklahoma. Tim (Adriana) Levin, Austin Texas and Kim (Jeff) Cook, Shawnee Kansas.

Also, still alive and kicking high are her 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

And of course, our other family member, her 4 legged companion, Bosley.

Marcia served as our family photographer for many years. We have 8mm movies from our time growing up, along with many, many photos thanks to her great efforts. Sadly, not many include her.

While her primary duty was looking after us, she survived many laborious years of laundry, cooking, and doling out discipline. We are deeply grateful for these life lessons while we sternly questioned her methods at the time.

She loved cooking and made thousands of goodie plates for her friends over the years at Christmas.

One Thursday every month, Marcia and her famous recipes were shared with Topekans in the Capital-Journal newspaper.

Many of her friends looked forward to her yearly New Years’ day party. They gathered for a fun day of eating her great cooking, drinking, and watching football. The primary activity was talking and catching up with one another.

Marcia volunteered her time at the World famous Topeka Zoo. Under the direction of Gary Cowabunga' Clark, she was the head of the docent volunteers. She gave many tours of the zoo over the years to the school children and many others from the Topeka area. Sharing her love of animals with the lives she touched. We endured many visits to other Zoos around the country during this time with her.

Marcia enjoyed making many Arts and Crafts projects in her lifetime. Most revolved around sewing. She worked at JoAnn fabrics sharing her love of sewing while helping others with their projects.

Marcia retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2008.

Later in life, Marcia met and married Billy Chambers on June 11, 1994, in Topeka, KS. Billy was a member of the Arab Shrine and the Orient Lodge #51, AF & AM, where they spent time with many other couples.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents (William 01/18/87, Ruth 04/04/12) and husband, Billy Chambers - September 18, 2017.

Later on in life, she moved to California where she spent time with her friend John Wallace.

Marcia returned to Kansas in June of this year.

Marcia attended Countryside United Methodist Church most of her life. Her parents were members of the group that founded the church.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 26th, 2021 at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, KS 66611. Following the service, light refreshments will be served at the church while the family receives guests.

If you feel the need or desire, Marcia and her kids would greatly appreciate your generous donations in her name to the Helping Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St, Topeka, KS 66604.
