Margaret Ann Compton

April 8, 1937 — June 25, 2019

Margaret A. Compton, 82, longtime Shawnee resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Homestead of Overland Park.

Margaret was born April 8, 1937 to the late Benjamin and Mary Weishaar in Atchison, KS.  She graduated from Mt. St. Scholastica in 1955 and attended St. Mary's College.  While serving as Maid of Honor in a friend's wedding, Margaret met her future husband, Robert. They were married on November 28, 1962 in Nortonville, KS.  Shortly after, she and Bob moved to Shawnee, KS, which became home for their beautiful family.  Margaret was devoted to the Catholic Church and a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish.  She shared her many gifts and commitment to service with numerous ministries at the parish including the St. Mary's Food Pantry, Eucharistic adoration and the funeral luncheon committee.  Margaret had a zest for life and offered a caring smile to all who crossed her path.  Margaret was a devoted mother to her children, a wonderful grandmother, and a loving wife.  She valued family as her highest priority and was a model of the love, courage and strength of St. Mary, the Blessed Mother of God. Margaret was a dear friend to many and was always fun to be around.  She had a grateful heart and focused on the bright side of any situation.  She was like a ray of warm sunshine on a cloudy day and had a heart of gold.  In the last several weeks, Margaret enjoyed a song that describes her well and sums up how her family and friends would characterize her: "You are my Sunshine."

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Compton on February 8, 2009.  Margaret is also preceded by her brother, Bernard Weishaar.  Margaret leaves behind her three children, and eight grandchildren - Chris Compton and wife Jill (Lauren, Nick and Alex); Mark Compton and wife Mary Beth (Tommy, Joey and Ben); Amy Reich and husband Jeff (Brook and Holly) ; a sister, Imogene Bertels and husband Eugene; two brothers, Kenny Weishaar and wife Mary Ann; Edward Weishaar; a sister in law, Kathleen Weishaar.
