Margaret “Maggie” Dowell was born January 1, 1934 in Seneca, Kansas daughter of George and Katherine Lueb. She passed away peacefully June 21, 2021 at Brookdale Shawnee. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Thursday, June 24, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, where a rosary will be held at 6:00 pm.
Maggie grew up in Seneca, and after high school moved to Kansas City where she met the love of her life, Horace Dowell at Hallmark Cards. They were married August 1, 1953 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.
They went on to raise six kids and were life-long members of St. Joseph parish in Shawnee. They were very happily married until Horace passed in 2012. Maggie was a devoted mother and wife. She touched many lives and had countless friends through the years. She loved her kids and grandkids, her husband, and her faith. She loved to sing and was in the adult choir at St. Joseph for decades. She loved to sew, cook, travel, and enjoyed many camping trips. She especially enjoyed spending time with her large family.
Maggie is preceded in death by her husband Horace, her son Greg Dowell, her daughter Pamela Martinez, daughter-in-law Becky Dowell, and brother-in-law Chuck Morrison. She leaves behind her sister Jane Morrison of Peculiar, Missouri, brother Chuck (Wanda) of Plattsburg, Missouri, daughter-in-law Jan Dowell (Greg), of Shawnee, son-in-law John Martinez (Pamela) of Kansas City, son Larry (LeAnn) of Overland Park, son Chris (Lori) of Atchison, son Michael of Shawnee, and son Brian (Joan) of Shawnee. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren (with one on the way), and many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by all.
