Margaret R. Mertens

Margaret R. (Peggy) Mertens, 66, passed away at her home surrounded by loved ones on October 31, 2009, after a 2 year battle with cancer.

Born October 17th, 1943, in Hallock, Minnesota, Peggy lived in St. Paul, Minnesota and moved to the Kansas City area in 1969. Peggy was a member of Overland Park Lutheran Church. She worked as office manager & chief accountant for Miller-Stauch Construction & most recently Goforth Construction until retiring in January of 2009. She and Larry were avid league bowlers in the Johnson County area. She thoroughly enjoyed camping with family at Pomona Lake and spending time with family stretching from Arkansas and Texas to Wisconsin and Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thelma & Eilif (Gjes) Gjesfjeld. She is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Larry Mertens; her sons, Roger & Christine Dahn, Gary & Lisa Williams-Dahn; brothers, John & Ronna Gjesfjeld, & Donald & Kathy Gjesfjeld; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 5 nephews and nieces and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation and Funeral Services

Visitation will be held at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee from 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Funeral service will be held at Amos Family Chapel of Shanwee on Wednesday at 10 am. A private family interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pomona, Kansas will immediately follow the service.
