Margaret Schrader

MARGARET R, (SMITH) SCHRADER, age 90, passed away on April 28, 2018 at Brookdale Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care, Wichita, Kansas. She was born on August 9, 1927 to Frank and Mary (Galvin) Smith in Kansas City, Kansas. She married Larry Schrader on January 11, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas and spent most of their lives in the Shawnee area before his death on April 29, 1991. Margaret moved to Wichita, Kansas in May, 2017.

Margaret was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church (Shawnee) and Church of the Magdalen (Wichita).  She loved her family, St. Patrick’s Day, watching KU basketball and KC Royals games, knitting, gardening, fishing and was famous for her Spaghetti and Meatball Recipe! Her family offers a special thank you to the caregivers at Brookdale Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care and RiverCross Hospice for providing exceptional care to Margaret.

Margaret is survived by her son Dennis (Andrea) Schrader of Apache Junction, AZ; daughter Debbie (Arlin) Beer of Wichita, KS; daughter Kim (Tom) Nunnink of Merriam, KS; son Keith (Cindy) Schrader of Sturgis, MI; son Jeff (Julie) Schrader of Lawrence, KS; and Julie Schrader of Irvington, NY.  She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sister Mary (Vernon) Nail and Robert (Rosie) Smith.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; Larry, her husband of 44 years; brother Harold Smith; and sisters Gerry Shubaugh, Katheryn McCabe, Sister Colette Smith, OSB and Sister Rita Smith, OSB.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS.  Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to Brookdale Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care, 9191 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS 67206 or RiverCross Hospice, 251 Whittier St., Wichita, KS 67207.
