Margie Louise Hogue

Margie (Marge) Louise Hogue passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on January 17, 2024.

She was born October 4,1928 on a farm outside of Blue Rapids, Kansas to Oscar and Maude Harris. Margie had three siblings, Donald A. Harris (Julie), Dale Harris (Bobbi Jo), and Dorothy Hula (Bill).

Margie graduated from Blue Rapids High School in 1946. During her high school years, Margie worked at Velma’s Beauty Salon in Blue Rapids, Kansas. After graduation, Margie went to beauty school in Beatrice, Nebraska. Upon graduation, she returned to Blue Rapids and married Robert L. Lower in 1947. They had three children, Gregory Allen Lower, Michael Lane Lower, and Lori Kay (Lower) Klaus.

Later in life, Margie married Donald Hogue of Topeka, Kansas. They were married in 2001 and remained married until his death in 2008.

Margie was a hairdresser from 1947 until her retirement in 2005. She owned and operated Marge’s Beauty and Style Salon for most of those years.

An avid bowler, Margie was on the Topeka Women’s Bowling Association Board of Directors for forty years. She was one of the Top Ten Topeka women bowlers for many years. She was also an avid supporter of the Sunflower Music Festival at Washburn University.

Margie is preceded in death by her husband Donald Hogue, her parents, sister, two brothers, and her granddaughter, Robyn (Lower) Summers. Margie is survived by her three children, Gregory Lower (Eileen McAsey), Michael Lower (Belinda), Lori Klaus (David), seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.

Margie got great enjoyment taking care of people, cooking for them, and sharing her Christmas candy, pies, and cookies. Those who knew Margie well will not be surprised to know she did not want a memorial service, unless her children needed it. She was not one who liked a lot of attention on herself. In keeping with her wishes, there will be a family graveside service in Blue Rapids, Kansas at a later date, where she will be buried with her parents.

The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care provided Margie at the Olathe Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to The Sunflower Music Festival .
