Marian L. Werner Baldschun, a long-time resident of Mission, Kansas, passed away at North Point Skilled Nursing Center in Paola, Kansas on Thursday, July 16. She was 93.
Marian was born to Paul and Leona Werner in Kansas City, Mo., on January 3, 1922. She grew up among a large extended family in the neighborhood near Sumner and 13th streets in Kansas City, Kansas.
After she graduated from Wyandotte High School, Marian married Henry "Hank" Baldschun Jr. on August 16, 1941.
Marian joined Hank when he was stationed in Canada during World War II.
When they returned to the Kansas City area, they purchased several rental properties, which Marian remodeled and decorated.
The couple purchased their home in Mission in the mid-1950s. Marian began to work part-time at the Casual Aire dress shop in Prairie Village. It was a job she loved, and she worked there for nearly three decades.
Marian and Hank celebrated their 68th anniversary before he died in 2010. Although they had no children of their own, the couple was beloved by nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Marian loved growing flowers and doing crafts, and she collected items to include in her flower arrangements when she and Hank would travel.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her sister, Pauline Thorpe, Osawatomie, Kansas; niece Charlene Sims (Roger), Parker, Kansas; and nephews Randy Baldschun, Portland, Oregon, and David Baldschun, Sun Valley, California.
