Marian L. Carter, Overland Park, Kansas, 94 peacefully passed away at Menorah Medical Center on Saturday December 10, 2022. Marian was born to John Simmons and Genevieve Suddarth Simmons on September 6, 1928.
Marian was a much beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will always be remembered for her love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and neighbors.
Marian grew up in northeast Kansas City and graduated from Northeast High School,
In 1947, Marian met Norman E. (Boots) Carter. They were married August 13th that year, and lived in Westwood Kansas before moving to Overland Park Kansas. There they raised their three children, Debbie, Judy, and Dennis.
Marian started working for Regional Investment Company in 1965, where she made many close friends and worked directly with customers she enjoyed seeing. She remained employed there until her retirement in 1990.
Marian will be remembered for her kind heart, no nonsense attitude, and love of a good puzzle. Marian was an animal lover, adoring many furry friends throughout her life. She loved sitting on her back deck observing all the birds and creatures she so enjoyed seeing, feeding, and naming. Marian was not adverse to technology, enjoying games, puzzles, pictures and emails on her computer and tablet. She liked to keep her mind sharp and she sure was.
Marian had seen a lot in her lifetime, and she was an amazing person who will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Marian was a strong and independent woman that lived her life with purpose, always focused on her family. They feel extremely grateful to have enjoyed the gift of her love and company for so many years.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband Boots in July 1990, daughter Judy G. Fritts in September 2021, and son Dennis N. Carter in July 2010.
Marian is survived by her brother; Charles Simmons, San Francisco, CA, daughter Debbie Ferguson (Larry) Osceola, MO, granddaughters Belinda Malara (Matt) Lenexa, KS, Kelley Lee (Jeff) Clinton MO, and Lauren Ferguson (Elizabeth) Clinton, MO, and four great-grandchildren Nikolas Lee, Myles Malara, Lukas Jones, and Alyson Ferguson.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15th, 2022 at the Amos Family Funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm. Marian will be laid to rest at Mt. Moriah Cemetery with her husband Boots.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project .
