Marian Elizabeth Montee

d. January 17, 2015

Marian Elizabeth Montee, 84, of Raymore Missouri, passed away January 17th, 2015 at her home located in Foxwood Springs retirement community.

Marian was born on a farm in the Reamsville community north of Smith Center Kansas on January17th 1931 to John A. and Lizzie (Martin) Daniels. Marian attended a one room school called Pleasant Valley located near the family farm and graduated from the 8th grade.

She attended and graduated from Smith Center High School in Smith Center. Marian's education was important to her and going to college for women from rural areas was not common in the early 1950's. Marian and her mother came up with money making projects including raising chickens to sell in Smith Center the summer before entering college. Once on campus she worked during the school year, through summers, vacations and holidays even skipping some family visits to get her degree. She then went on to graduate from Kansas Wesleyan University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1953. Following graduation Marian then attended St. Joseph Hospital in Joplin for additional training.

On September 5th 1954 she married Archie Dean Montee at Byers Avenue Methodist Church in Joplin, MO. and the couple moved to Kansas City.

Her career in heath care spanned over 40 years as a medical technologist with the majority of her career working at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Marian retired from Baptist in 1996.

Marian gave of her time generously to other interests including being a Cub Scouts den mother and volunteering with the PTA. She was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church and served on the board as a trustee. In 2001 Dean and Marian moved to Shawnee and joined the Shawnee United Methodist Church and the Keystone Sunday school class.

Marian was a member in the United Methodist Women organization for more than 50 years. She attended local and regional conferences in addition to being very active in the local Women's Circle at both Linwood and Shawnee United Methodist Church.

Marian was a fiercely protective and determined woman who lived according to the values of the church. This was apparent in the dedication she showed her husband after his heart surgery with no detail to small for her consideration. Her loving and protective care added at least 15 years to his life beyond what the doctors expected.

She is survived by her two sons Kent Montee of Dallas, Texas and Mason Montee of Peculiar, Missouri, by a brother, Joe A. Daniels and wife, Hildegard of Chesapeake, Virginia, two niece's Sandy Daniels of Reston, Virginia, and Sandra Daniels of Virginia Beach, Virginia and three cousins Sherrill Daniels, Steve Daniels and Gail Potter.

The family would like to thank all of Marian's care givers for the love and kindness they gave to her for the past two years.

There will be a visitation on Monday, January 26th, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive.
