Marilyn Lucile Martens, 95, of Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS (formerly of Prairie Village, KS) passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 at the Shawnee Mission Med. Ctr., Merriam, KS.
Marilyn was born Jan. 4, 1921, in Kansas City, KS to William P. and Clara L. Utermohlen. She was a 1938 graduate of Wyandotte High School and had the fourth highest GPA in a class of 659 graduates. Marilyn graduated from Kansas State University with a BS in Home Economics in 1944. While in college, Marilyn met Arthur E. Martens. They were married Sept. 17, 1944, in Kansas City, KS.
Marilyn was an accounting clerk for the City of Prairie Village from 1968-1983, when she retired. She was actively involved in her church, DAR, Garden Club, and in several bridge groups. Marilyn especially enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Martens in 2005 and brother, William P. Utermohlen, Jr. She is survived by her three children, Barbara (Jack) Bush, Cocoa Beach, FL, Elaine (Don) Bell, Eudora, KS and Kent (Cindy) Martens, Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren, Andrew Bell, Eric (Tracy) Martens, Brooke (Peter) Wentz and Alan Martens; and one great grandson, Jayce.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 6306 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
