Marilyn (Clevenger) Sheffler

Marilyn Sheffler, 91, Olathe KS, passed away on February 7, 2024. Marilyn was born on August 22, 1932, to Homer Hendrix Clevenger and Esther Clevenger in Kingsdown, KS and was the youngest of four children.  She attended Emporia State Teachers College where she met her future husband, Miles Sheffler. They were married for 57 years. She earned her Bachelor's degree in music education and later obtained her Master’s degree in elementary education from the University of Kansas.

Family and church were Marilyn’s priorities, and her husband and children always came first. She was actively involved in Sunday school classes and Bible studies. At one point, Marilyn was directing four church choirs while also giving 25 piano lessons a week! She enjoyed music, cooking, playing bridge and socializing with friends. Marilyn was an elementary music teacher for 27 years in Wichita, KS, Coffeyville, KS, and the Shawnee Mission School District.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Miles Sheffler. Marilyn is survived by her daughter and husband, Julie and Tom Nitcher of Lenexa, KS and her daughter, Melinda Emig, of Olathe, KS. She leaves her four grandchildren Melanie Slaughter, of Overland Park, KS, Meredith Sawyer of Saint Joseph, MO, Greg Nitcher of Greenwood, MO, and Cody Emig of Olathe, KS. Marilyn is also survived by her three great grandchildren Flynn Slaughter of Overland Park, KS, Hadleigh Sawyer of Saint Joseph, MO, and Claire Nitcher of Greenwood, MO, as well as her two nephews David Clevenger of Little Elm, TX and Steven Clevenger of Sante Fe, NM.  She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Bruce and Keith Clevenger and her sister, Eula Colson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 17th, at Lenexa United Methodist Church, 9138 Caenen Lake Road, Lenexa, KS 66215. The family will greet visitors prior to the service at 12 p.m.
